Palmitoylethanolamide Side Effects and Safety Data
Palmitoylethanolamide side effects appear to be rare and mild in the trials we reviewed, but the safety data is limited. Studies lasted weeks, not years, and many were small. No source we read gives a full list of interactions. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you take any regular medicine.

What are the known palmitoylethanolamide side effects?
The sources we reviewed do not describe a pattern of serious palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) side effects. That is not the same as proof of safety.
The sciatica trial ran for 3 weeks with 636 people (Cruccu et al., CNS Drug Targets 2019). The pain meta-analysis pooled mostly short trials and called study quality generally poor (Artukoglu et al., Pain Physician 2017). Short trials can miss rare or slow problems.
We did not find a verified list of PEA side effects in the sources we checked, so we will not invent one. If you feel unwell, stop and call your doctor.

| Short-term use | Trials ran for weeks; no safety signal in what we read |
| Long-term use | Not established in our sources |
| Drug interactions | Not established in our sources |
| Pregnancy and children | Not established; ask your doctor |
What is still unknown about PEA safety?
Long-term safety, drug interactions and use in pregnancy are still unknown in the sources we checked. Unknown means untested, not safe.
Supplements are not approved by the FDA before sale. The maker is responsible for safety (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements). NCCIH also notes that supplements can interact with medicines, and that many are untested in pregnant women, nursing mothers and children (NCCIH, Using Supplements Wisely).
That matters because most people with sciatica take something else too, such as pain relievers or nerve medicines.
List every supplement you use when you see a doctor, dentist or pharmacist (NCCIH, Using Supplements Wisely).
What does a SciatiEase serving add besides PEA?
A serving of SciatiEase adds more than PEA. Four capsules hold 500 mg of PEA plus R-alpha lipoic acid, acetyl-L-carnitine, benfotiamine, four B vitamins and a herb blend.
So side effects could come from any line, not just PEA. The herb blend has its own cautions. Feverfew may slow blood clotting (NCCIH, Feverfew), and passionflower may cause drowsiness (NCCIH, Passionflower). Chinese skullcap has liver injury case reports (MSK, Scutellaria baicalensis).
The PEA safety data does not cover the full capsule. Nothing here was tested in SciatiEase itself.

Stop the supplement and call your doctor or pharmacist if you feel unwell after starting it. Report a bad reaction to FDA as well (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements).
Keep taking prescribed medicine. Never stop it because of a supplement. Go to emergency care for pain in both legs, numbness around the groin or bottom, bladder or bowel changes, weak legs, or symptoms after an injury.

FAQ01
Quick answers on PEA safety
Can PEA cause stomach upset?
We found no verified figure for stomach upset with PEA in our sources, so we cannot give one. Any supplement can upset some stomachs. Taking capsules with food may help, and your pharmacist can advise on your case.
Is PEA safe during pregnancy?
Safety in pregnancy is not established in the sources we reviewed. Many supplements have not been tested in pregnant or nursing women (NCCIH, Using Supplements Wisely). Ask your doctor before using PEA, or any capsule with herbs, during pregnancy.
How long can PEA be taken safely?
Long-term safety is not established in the sources we checked. The sciatica trial lasted 3 weeks (Cruccu et al., CNS Drug Targets 2019). If you plan to use PEA for months, review it with your doctor at regular check-ins.
