Nerve Supplements for Neuropathy: A Starter Guide
Nerve supplements for neuropathy are vitamins and compounds studied mostly in diabetic nerve problems, with small trials and mixed results. They do not treat neuropathy or replace medicine. SciatiEase lists several of these ingredients, but at doses below most trial doses and without its own trial. Ask your doctor first, especially if you take diabetes drugs.

What are nerve supplements for neuropathy?
They are dietary supplements marketed for nerve comfort in people with neuropathy. Neuropathy means damage or disease in the peripheral nerves, often felt as burning, tingling or numbness in the feet and legs.
Diabetes is the leading cause (NINDS, Peripheral Neuropathy). Low B12 and too much B6 are the best-known vitamin causes. That is why a cause check comes before any supplement.
The table shows what studies of the main ingredients found.
| Ingredient | What studies found | SciatiEase, 4 capsules |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha lipoic acid | Oral: symptom scores better, pain scores not (Hsieh et al., Nutrients 2023) | 250 mg R-ALA |
| Benfotiamine | Small studies, milder symptoms (NIH ODS, Thiamin) | 200 mg |
| Acetyl-L-carnitine | Very low certainty (Rolim et al., Cochrane 2019) | 250 mg |
| Vitamin B12 | Matters if you are deficient (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12) | 1 mg |
Do nerve supplements work for neuropathy?
The evidence is mixed. Some small trials saw better symptom scores, and larger or longer ones often saw less.
A pooled review of 10 trials found oral alpha lipoic acid at 600 to 1,800 mg a day improved symptom scores, but not pain scores or nerve conduction (Hsieh et al., Nutrients 2023). Many alpha lipoic acid trials came from one group funded by a maker (Linus Pauling Inst., Lipoic Acid).
Acetyl-L-carnitine showed no difference from placebo at 1,500 mg a day or less (Rolim et al., Cochrane 2019). SciatiEase lists 250 mg. Its alpha lipoic acid is 250 mg, below the trial range. So trial results should not be moved onto this product.
How should you start with a neuropathy supplement?
Start with your doctor, not the bottle. A cause, a baseline and a medicine list make the choice safer.
Get the cause checked
Ask about blood sugar and B12. Metformin and acid reducers can lower B12 (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12).
Share your medicine list
Ask your doctor or pharmacist about diabetes drugs, gabapentin, blood thinners such as Eliquis or warfarin, and sedatives. Our guide to supplements and nerve medicines lists the questions.
Read the label
Match the amounts to the table above. Do not add other B6 products.
Keep a simple log
Note symptoms weekly. If nothing changes, talk with your doctor before raising the dose.

Alpha lipoic acid may lower blood sugar, so people on insulin or diabetes pills should monitor it (Linus Pauling Inst., Lipoic Acid). Tell your doctor before you start.
Keep taking prescribed medicine. NIDDK advises talking with a doctor before using supplements for diabetic nerve problems (NIDDK, Peripheral Neuropathy).
Get emergency care for symptoms in both legs, numbness around the groin or bottom, bladder or bowel changes, weak legs, or symptoms after an injury.

FAQ01
Quick answers on neuropathy supplements
Can I take a neuropathy supplement with gabapentin?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first. We do not know your medicines, and gabapentin can cause drowsiness (MedlinePlus, Gabapentin). Some herbs in nerve formulas can add to that. Do not stop gabapentin because of a supplement.
Is the oral form of alpha lipoic acid as strong as the IV form?
Studies suggest not. IV doses of 300 to 600 mg a day helped diabetic nerve symptoms, while oral results were mixed (Linus Pauling Inst., Lipoic Acid). A capsule is not the same as an IV.
Which vitamin deficiency causes neuropathy most often?
Low B12 is the best-known vitamin cause, and too much B6 can also harm nerves (NINDS, Peripheral Neuropathy). A blood test shows your B12 level. Ask your doctor before you guess or self-dose.
