Do Sciatic Nerve Supplements Work? What Studies Measure
Do sciatic nerve supplements work? The evidence is thin. One 3-week trial of PEA in people with low back pain and sciatica found better pain and function, but it was short. Other ingredients were tested in neuropathy, not sciatica. No SciatiEase product trial exists, so work is unproven.

Do sciatic nerve supplements work?
The honest answer is that we do not know yet. Sciatica has one supplement trial worth citing, and it was brief.
Sciatica is pain from an irritated sciatic nerve, often from a disc or spinal narrowing (MedlinePlus, Sciatica). It frequently improves within weeks or months with or without a product (NHS, Sciatica). That makes any supplement hard to judge by how you feel.
Our sciatica basics guide explains causes and care.
What did the sciatica supplement trial measure?
The trial measured pain and function over 3 weeks. It was a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 636 people with low back pain and sciatica (Cruccu et al., CNS Drug Targets 2019).
People took PEA at 300 mg or 600 mg a day. Against placebo, the 600 mg group did better on both pain and function (Cruccu et al., CNS Drug Targets 2019). The authors noted the short length and that pain groups were assigned after the fact.
| Detail | What was reported |
|---|---|
| People | 636 with low back pain and sciatica |
| Dose | 300 mg or 600 mg a day of PEA |
| Length | 3 weeks |
| Outcome | 600 mg beat placebo on pain and function |
| Limit | Short; groups assigned after the fact |
A wider PEA review found about a 2-point drop on a 10-point scale, with few trials and low quality (Artukoglu et al., Pain Physician 2017). See the PEA page.
What do sciatica studies not tell you?
They do not tell you what happens past 3 weeks, or what a mixed formula does. The gaps matter.
- Alpha-lipoic acid, carnitine and benfotiamine were studied in neuropathy, not in sciatica.
- Combining many ingredients was not tested in the PEA trial.
- Drugs for sciatica also have weak evidence. A review found little benefit over placebo for many (Pinto et al., BMJ 2012), and gabapentinoids showed no pain reduction for sciatica-type pain (Enke et al., CMAJ 2018).
- Scans can mislead. Disc bulges show up in 30% of pain-free 20-year-olds (Brinjikji et al., AJNR 2015).
Sciatica in both legs, numbness around the groin or bottom, bladder or bowel changes, weak legs, or pain after an injury mean emergency care (AANS, Cauda Equina Syndrome). Keep taking prescribed medicine.

See packsWhat does that mean for SciatiEase?
It means SciatiEase is untested for sciatica as a finished product. Its PEA dose of 500 mg per 4 capsules falls inside the trial range, and 2 capsules give 250 mg, below it.
The remaining ingredients are below most trial doses, and the herb blend amounts are hidden. Take that as a reason for caution, not a verdict.
One bottle is $69.00 plus $6.95 shipping, with a 180-day money-back guarantee on the order page. Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you take blood thinners, gabapentin or diabetes drugs. Our nerve supplements guide covers the rest.

FAQ01
Quick answers on sciatic nerve supplements
Will a sciatic nerve supplement shrink a herniated disc?
No evidence says it will. A supplement is not shown to change a disc. Discs and nerves are checked by a doctor, sometimes with imaging, and care can include exercise or other treatment (MedlinePlus, Sciatica).
Is 600 mg of PEA the right dose for sciatica?
It was the higher dose in the one trial we cite (Cruccu et al., CNS Drug Targets 2019), but that does not make it right for you. SciatiEase has 500 mg per 4 capsules. Ask your doctor what dose, if any, suits you.
How soon should sciatica improve without a supplement?
Sciatica often improves in a few weeks to a few months. See a doctor if it has not improved after a few weeks, is getting worse, or stops normal activity (NHS, Sciatica).
