What is a normal B complex dosage for nerves?
There is no single B complex dosage for nerves. Each B vitamin has its own daily need, and supplement doses are often many times higher than that need.
The adult RDA is about 1.1 to 1.3 mg for B2 (NIH ODS, Riboflavin), 1.3 mg for B6 (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6), 400 mcg DFE for folate (NIH ODS, Folate) and 2.4 mcg for B12 (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12). A balanced diet usually meets these. A supplement can go far above them.
Higher is not always better. Some of these vitamins have a set upper limit, and one of them can harm nerves when the dose is too high.

Why does B6 need the most care in a B complex?
B6 needs the most care because too much of it can damage sensory nerves. That is the reverse of what most people want from a nerve supplement.
Taking 1 to 6 g a day for months caused severe sensory neuropathy in reports. Some cases appeared below 500 mg a day (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6). The US upper limit is 100 mg a day, but the European Food Safety Authority set 12 mg a day in 2023.
So do not stack B6 products. A multivitamin, a B complex and an energy drink can each add some. Add up the B6 on every label before you start.

How do you read the percent Daily Value on a B complex?
The percent Daily Value compares one serving with a daily reference amount. A B complex often shows hundreds or thousands of percent, which only means the dose is well above the reference.
Folate and B12 show why. A 1 mg dose of B12 is 41,667% of the Daily Value, yet only about 1.3% of a 1,000 mcg oral dose is absorbed (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12). The big percent describes the label, not what reaches your blood.
Also check the serving size. Many labels list 1 capsule; others list 4. Divide by the number you take.
- Find the serving size first, then the amount per serving.
- Read the unit: mg and mcg differ by a factor of 1,000.
- Look at the form, such as methylcobalamin or pyridoxal-5-phosphate.
- Compare the amount with the upper limit, not only the Daily Value.

Is a high-dose B complex safe every day?
Not always. Most B vitamins have a wide margin, but B6 does not. Long-term high doses of B6 have caused nerve damage (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6). Add up B6 from every product and ask your doctor or pharmacist about your total.
Why is my urine bright yellow on a B complex?

Do I need a B complex if I eat a balanced diet?
